Het werd doorgaans beschouwd als de onbetwiste crowd pleaser van SIHH in Genève, en nu wordt de nieuwe Pilot-collectie van IWC vernieuwd in Australië. Afgelopen donderdag trok IWC alle stoptjes om de lokale lancering van de 2016 Pilot's Collection te vieren. Het was een elegante affaire, de kamer vol memorabilia die de gouden eeuw van de luchtvaart opwekken, en de menigte keek het deel uit. Maar de echte steek in de staart van de strikte jurkcode die op de uitnodiging staat?
"IWC horloge of geen horloge."
Gelukkig hebben degenen met naakte polsen te lang niet gemist, want na de eerste formaliteiten werden afgezien, begon de nieuwe collectie zijn weg naar bewonderende polsen.

And this collection is set to stun for all audiences. From the biggest Big Pilot all the way down to the Automatic 36. Miss Universe Australia, Monika Radulovic, was particularly taken with this more petite take on the classic Flieger. On the other hand, Bianca Cheah, the entrepreneur behind Sporteluxe, preferred the larger men’s models – her husband was quick to point out that she’s been known to ‘borrow’ his Top Gun Chronograph. The Mark XVIII received universal acclaim for it’s simple, clean aesthetic and ability to look the part with a tux. The purists in the room also gave the newly pared back dial on the Big Pilot the tick of approval.
If the response at the Australian launch is anything to go by, IWC’s iconic Pilot watches are going to reach new heights, and new wrists, this year.
